Vardis Proud To Support Uber In Appointing Niall Wass As SVP Europe, Middle East & Africa and Asia Pacific
Niall Wass, the former Chief Executive of British payday lender Wonga.com, has joined Uber Technologies Inc. to spearhead its international expansion. Wass, whose official title is Senior Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific, joined the car-hailing smartphone app company earlier this month. His job is to head up and expand international operations in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
According to a company spokeswoman. "Niall brings significant commercial expertise to Uber as we continue to expand and scale our business internationally," the spokeswoman said.
Wass worked as Chief Operating Officer at Wonga.com starting in January 2012. He was promoted to CEO in December 2013. Prior to joining Wonga, Wass worked at online gaming company Betfair, where he was Chief Commercial Officer, and was previously at investment company Brait Private Equity and Accenture.
Uber have recently closed a financing round with some of the leading investors in the world, raising $1.2Bn of primary capital at a $18.2 Bn pre-money valuation. The total raise will be about $1.4Bn with a second close of strategic investors soon. Uber’s backers include private equity firm TPG, as well as venture capital firms Google Ventures, Summit Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Menlo Ventures.
